EkoLance Participation in the 2023 European Blockchain Convention

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

EkoLance participated in the 2023 European Blockchain Convention held in Barcelona. The event is the most influential blockchain event in Europe, with over 2500+ attendees and 200+ speakers across a variety of panels, keynote workshops, and fire-side chats on the current state of the Web3 space. It provided an opportunity for attendees to network and collaborate with many top blockchain companies that were present. The trade fair space was about 2,000 square meters and attendees had the opportunity to explore and learn about the latest products and services offered by numerous companies. As a participant, EkoLance had the opportunity to connect with startups, investors, developers, and corporations that are changing the world.

The Status of Web3 Talent Acquisition

During the European Blockchain Convention, EkoLance spoke to over 50 web3 companies to gain insight into the state of the blockchain industry and the evolving landscape of talent acquisition. What we discovered from their current hiring practices and HR requirements is that despite the current bear market, companies are still actively recruiting for both full-time and freelance positions. The most in-demand job roles are developers, sales and business development executives, compliance specialists, marketers, and social media experts.

However, we found out that the recruitment process for blockchain companies differs significantly from that of Web2 companies. The following are the key takeaways from our conversation with Web3 companies at the event:

  • Companies are looking for candidates who understand the use cases of blockchain and their specific products and services.

  • Web3 companies prefer to hire someone who has worked on a well-known project and comes recommended by that company.

  • The entire Web3 space is still small and companies value reputation and experience a lot.

In the coming weeks, EkoLance will be announcing partnerships with many of these companies, providing them with recruitment services that match their unique needs.

Panel Discussion

During the 2023 European Blockchain Convention, Maria Eneva-Olms, the CEO of EkoLance, participated in a panel session with Susanne Fromm, Matus Steis, and David Wigger to discuss the crypto winter and the options for startups. The key takeaway from the discussion was that the ongoing crypto winter will weed out unsustainable web3 businesses and only the ones that solve real problems will survive. Investors are also paying close attention to the social impact Web3 companies are making, beyond just financial returns. Investors are particularly interested in two key areas — ReFi and social impact.

Maria highlighted EkoLance’s commitment to financial inclusion. EkoLance facilitates financial inclusion by offering education and training programs to help professionals from emerging countries secure jobs and get paid in stablecoins. Stablecoins are particularly important in this context, as they provide a reliable method of payment that isn't subject to the same volatility as traditional cryptocurrencies, or fiat currencies in developing currencies.

“As the Web3 industry expands, there is a growing demand for financial inclusion and new approaches to job creation. EkoLance is utilizing the promises of blockchain for good by enabling education and financial access to individuals in emerging countries.”— Maria Eneva-Olms, CEO of EkoLance

Over the past 9 months, we have trained over 2000+ blockchain professionals in blockchain content creation, community management, and solidity development, with 25% being hired immediately. So far, we have welcomed over 250+ solidity developers, 700+ content creators, and 550+ community managers to our talent pool. This year, we want to impact 50,000 lives and add more in-demand Web3 training courses to the existing ones.

Maria also shared the options available to startups during the crypto winter. She advised that blockchain companies should focus on building sustainable businesses that solve real-life problems, rather than chasing quick financial profits. Doing this will help startups attract the attention of investors looking for long-term partnerships with businesses that align with their values.
